Australian cancer cells return from space after microgravity mission
Human stem cells from Adelaide University traveled to the edge of space aboard a German rocket launched on Oct. 1, 2026.
Rocket launch and altitude details
The sounding rocket departed the Esrange Space Center in Sweden at 8:51 a.m. local time. It reached an altitude of approximately 300 kilometers above Earth before returning to the ground. The mission was led by Cambrian Defense & Space with support from SSC Space and Blue Dwarf Space.
Microgravity exposure duration
The cells spent at least seven minutes in a microgravity environment during the flight. Researchers will now analyze the samples to see how they responded to the conditions. They hope these changes could offer new insights into cancer progression and early detection.
