AbbVie hidradenitis suppurativa drug lutikizumab shows promise but falls short of market expectations
AbbVie announced on Thursday that its experimental therapy for hidradenitis suppurativa succeeded in a late-stage trial though results did not meet market expectations.

Trial enrollment and primary results
The Phase 3 Intrepid trial enrolled 1,400 patients with moderate-to-severe hidradenitis suppurativa. Thirty-one point four percent of participants receiving weekly injections of lutikizumab reported a reduction of 75 percent or greater in inflamed bumps and abscesses after 16 weeks. This outcome served as the study's primary endpoint.
Secondary outcomes and safety profile
The drug also met eight secondary endpoints that included improvements in skin pain and flares. Adverse event rates were nearly identical between the treatment group and the placebo group. The company stated that lutikizumab was generally safe and well tolerated during the study.
