Universal launches Oscar campaign for The Odyssey with high-profile moderators

Universal Pictures begins its official Academy Awards push for Christopher Nolan's film The Odyssey the week of November 9 with screenings moderated by Robert Downey Jr., Guillermo del Toro, and Steven Spielberg.

Los Angeles kickoff events

Robert Downey Jr. will moderate a screening at the TCL Chinese Theatre on November 11. An event featuring Guillermo del Toro is scheduled for November 12 at the AMC Universal CityWalk location. Steven Spielberg will handle the presentation at the DGA Theater on November 17.

Campaign focus on format

Nearly every Los Angeles date features an IMAX 70mm, 70mm, or 35mm screening. The studio emphasizes that the film was shot entirely using IMAX film cameras. Universal wants voters to judge the movie on a large screen rather than via the Academy digital portal.

Box office performance history

The Odyssey opened in July with a global debut of $264.1 million. The total gross has since crossed $1.1 billion to become Nolan's highest-grossing film.
