Sony Pictures has cast Tom Holland as Fred Astaire alongside Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter in a new biopic directed by Paul King.
Casting Announced For Dance Roles
Margaret Qualley will portray Adele Astaire, the dancer's older sister and Broadway partner. Sabrina Carpenter is set to play Ginger Rogers, who frequently starred with Fred in films. Holland joins the project following his recent roles in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey.
Director Discusses Historical Challenge
Paul King stated that no surviving footage of Adele Astaire dancing exists for this production. He noted that Fred left a legacy on film while his sister's work was lost to history. The script is based on the book The Astaires: Fred & Adele by Kathleen Riley.
Production Team And Support
Amy Pascal and Rachel O'Connor serve as producers for the Sony Pictures film. Steven Levenson co-wrote the screenplay with King based on Riley's biography. The project has support from Fred Astaire's daughter, Ava Astaire McKenzie.
