The Odyssey returns to IMAX 70mm theaters in December
Universal Pictures will re-release Christopher Nolan's film The Odyssey on more than 1,000 screens in the United States and Canada starting December 11.

Record-breaking box office performance
The movie originally opened on July 17 and earned $626 million domestically. Worldwide total receipts reached $1.8 billion, making it the studio's highest-grossing title ever. It also ranked as the second-highest grossing film of 2026 behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Technical achievements and cast
This feature was the first motion picture shot entirely with IMAX cameras. The production broke records for the biggest domestic opening in IMAX 70mm format. Matt Damon plays the lead role of Odysseus alongside Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway.
Previous limited theatrical run
Universal previously showed the film in a limited release during early October. The current expansion includes all formats including standard IMAX screens. This marks the second time the studio has brought the epic back to cinemas.
