Taiwan documentary filmmaker and gay dancer face middle age at TCCF
Filmmaker Frankie Sin and influencer Fufu discuss aging and identity in their new documentary at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest in Taipei.
Nine years of filming a life
Frankie Sin followed Fufu from 2017 until 2026 to create the film. The influencer gained fame through racy dance routines and performances in high heels. His online channel allowed him to talk openly about desire while helping drag queens reach mainstream audiences.
Critics and community standards clash
Some critics branded Fufu a cancer of the gay community because they wanted men presented more respectfully. Sin noted that the local scene prized hyper-masculinity and a model image instead of openness. This environment triggered anxiety about his body and identity for the filmmaker.
Loneliness after fame fades
Fufu now speaks frankly about the costs of fame and the loneliness that follows when the persona is removed. He is nearing 40 and coming to terms with an aging face and body. Sin started the project because he felt out of place within mainstream community standards.
