Sunil Malhotra voices Apu in The Simpsons after eight year silence
Actor Sunil Malhotra has taken over the role of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon on The Simpsons following an eight-year absence from the character.

New voice actor debuts on show
Sunil Malhotra made his first appearance as Apu on Sunday night in a new episode of the animated series. This marks the end of an eight-year period where the character appeared without speaking lines. The producers kept this casting change under wraps until the episode aired.
Previous voice actor steps away
Hank Azaria previously voiced the convenience store owner before announcing he would stop in 2020 after criticism regarding the portrayal. Azaria later apologized for his part in creating and participating in that specific representation on a podcast. The character was originally voiced by Azaria alongside other actors over many seasons.
Wife role also changes hands
Janina Gavankar now provides the voice for Apu's wife, Manjula, replacing previous voice actors Jan Hooks and Tress MacNeille. Malhotra and Gavankar shared a joint social media post declaring this new direction for the character. The episode featuring these changes is titled Treehouse of Horror Presents: The Revengening.
