New film brings franchise back

The studio is launching a new vision for the horror property after previous entries struggled at the box office. Writer-director Mike Flanagan will helm the project which features a cast including John Leguizamo and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The plot centers on NYPD homicide detective Julie Miller investigating murders that threaten her son.

Production follows recent failures

Universal paid $400 million for the rights to the franchise in 2021 with plans for three feature films. The previous movie The Exorcist: Believer earned only $137 million globally and received poor reviews from critics. This second installment aims to break the curse that has affected recent Universal horror releases.
