Ryan Murphy told reporters at the New York premiere of American Horror Story: 13 that he would never produce another all-star season like the thirteenth installment.

Murphy rejects repeating the mega cast effort

The co-creator stated clearly during a press interview that such a massive gathering of stars will not happen again. He told The Hollywood Reporter that he does not think it would ever occur in the future. Despite this, he expressed a desire to continue working with many of the returning actors.

Some characters might return for new stories

Murphy clarified his position by noting he still hopes to bring back specific characters from previous seasons. He wants to collaborate with the ensemble cast on future projects that do not require everyone to appear together. The thirteenth season featured Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson returning to their iconic franchise roles alongside other stars.

The show uses an anthology format

Each season of the series tells a different story while allowing actors to reprise past roles occasionally. The creators launched the anthology on FX in 2011 with this flexible approach to casting and storytelling. Season thirteen took that concept further than any previous installment by including so many returning faces.
