Actor Rob Lowe confirmed during a Sunday appearance on Watch What Happens Live that a St Elmo's Fire sequel is in the works and that the cast wants to participate.

Lowe stated that he has met with the studio and discussed the project for about four months. He noted that the team will receive a draft of the script during the first week of October. The actor described the current phase as being very early stages.
Studio involvement and writing plans
Demi Moore previously revealed that conversations are happening around the sequel with Sony driving the discussions. She added that the studio is looking for the right partner to write the film. Popular on Variety reported earlier that NBC developed a series adaptation in 2019 before it did not materialize.
Original cast interest confirmed
Lowe said all of the actors want to do the sequel when asked about their current status. Fans have been waiting for this news since the film was first announced in 2024. The original movie remains a classic from 1985.
