RadicalMedia nonfiction workers ratify first union contract with WGA East
Workers at RadicalMedia voted to approve their first collective bargaining agreement on Friday.

Voting results confirmed by union
A roughly 50-member bargaining unit representing nonfiction staff approved the new five-year deal. Ninety-five percent of those who voted cast ballots in favor of the agreement by October 9. The Writers Guild of America East represents archival producers, story producers, field workers and postproduction workers within this group.
Contract terms include health care
The ratified agreement establishes protections such as rest periods and paid holidays for production staff. It also includes provisions for pay when production pauses on short notice and contributions toward health care. Michael Rauch of the WGA East stated that union standards are becoming the norm in nonfiction shops.
Company history with documentaries
RadicalMedia has produced Oscar-winning titles like Summer of Soul and the Conversations with a Killer franchise. The company also created Ladies and Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music and The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare. Justin Barocas leads the organization that now joins a growing list of organized nonfiction shops.
