Producer Yen Hao-hsuan backs Taiwanese drama Uncle at Busan Asian Project Market
Director Yen Hao-hsuan is promoting his feature film Uncle at the Asian Project Market during the Busan International Film Festival.

Story of rural family life
The film follows a boy named Wen and his uncle A-Tsik, who has an intellectual disability. The narrative spans from 1997 to 2000 in rural Taiwan while the grandfather runs an illegal gambling den. As Wen grows older, his affection for his uncle turns into embarrassment before he leaves for city school.
Director draws on personal history
Yen Hao-hsuan wrote and directed this project based on his own experience living with an uncle for 18 years. He previously made short films but felt ready to tell this specific story after gaining distance from the past. The director states he now sees his uncle as a person rather than just material for a film.
