Piano boards Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Jengira’s Magnificent Dream with Tilda Swinton
Mexican distributor Piano has signed on to produce Apichatpong Weerasethakul's new film Jengira's Magnificent Dream, which stars Tilda Swinton.
Production team and cast details
Producer Julio Chavezmontes confirmed the agreement between the companies. The project joins Piano's history of working with directors who push cinematic boundaries. Joining Swinton are Thai actors Jenjira Pongpas and Sakda Kaewbuadee, along with Canadian actor Connor Jessup.
Plot summary and setting
The story follows a Thai widow named Jengira who travels to Sigiriya in central Sri Lanka. She goes there to scatter her husband's ashes in an ancient rock forest. Blurred visions distort her sense of time and space as she moves across different periods.
Visual style and themes
The film blends 1970s science fiction aesthetics with a timeless world where cell phones mark temporal differences. It explores the boundaries between memory, history, and the supernatural through guided empathy and science.
