Paramount settlement talks with state attorneys general continue without resolution
Negotiations between Paramount and a coalition of state attorneys general regarding its Warner Bros. Discovery deal continued on Sunday in the United States but ended without an agreement.
California leads antitrust litigation efforts
California Attorney General Rob Bonta heads the group of twelve states suing to block the merger. He remains open to conditions that would limit how Paramount operates after the takeover. Other attorneys general, however, are demanding stricter terms before they will sign off on any deal.
Proposed restrictions and penalties discussed
Discussed terms include keeping studio operations separate for a period of time. The merged company might also have to release at least thirty films in theaters annually or face financial penalties. Additionally, Paramount could be required to guarantee it does not move its California staff and allow a third party to oversee news content.
Negotiations pause for holiday observance
The sides were expected to stop negotiations on Monday because of the Yom Kippur holiday. Some states want more than what Paramount chief David Ellison has already promised regarding these conditions.
