Paramount Pictures develops live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film based on video game

Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film adaptation of the Cyberpunk 2077 video game.

Production team and rights holder

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce the project alongside CD Projekt Red. The Polish developer holds the franchise rights for this action-adventure role-playing game.

Game sales and universe details

The original title has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. Its setting is Night City, a megalopolis focused on power and body modification.

Related media and cast

Keanu Reeves stars as Johnny Silverhand in the source material. An expansion called Phantom Liberty sold 15 million copies and features Idris Elba.

Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film based on the video game Cyberpunk 2077 in partnership with developer CD Projekt Red.

Production team and partners

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, known for producing Transformers films, is attached to produce the movie. CD Projekt Red will also serve as a producer on the project. The studio has not yet announced specific details regarding a release date or plot.

Game sales and history

The source material launched in December 2020 after several delays and faced initial performance issues. Despite those challenges, the game sold 40 million copies worldwide and became a major success. An expansion called Phantom Liberty has since sold 15 million copies globally.

Related media adaptations

A Netflix anime series based on the franchise is currently airing its second season. A sequel video game titled Cyberpunk 2 is also in development at CD Projekt Red. This film project follows other recent successful video game movie adaptations.
