Paramount and Warner Bros reach settlement with state attorneys general over merger
David Ellison confirmed on Monday that Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros Discovery settled their antitrust lawsuit with a group of state attorneys general.
Labor groups adjust legal stance
The Writers Guild of America acknowledged it can no longer continue its active litigation against the merger. The union stated that the settlement with the Attorneys General means they must now pursue a complex antitrust lawsuit alone. Consequently, the WGA agreed to an arrangement from Paramount that prohibits writer layoffs.
Merger opposition faces new reality
Activist groups and talent had previously voiced strong opposition to the combination of the two companies. The prolonged legal standoff between Ellison and the regulators caused paralysis in development spending at both firms. With the government enforcers no longer backing the lawsuit, the guilds must forge ahead without that support.
