Coco Mao, co-founder and CEO of OpenArt AI, told the Access Canada Summit on Tuesday that artificial intelligence tools are not ready to replace live action film production.

Current adoption in marketing sectors

Mao noted that digital creators on social media platforms are early adopters of the company's new Director tool. This product can generate videos up to five minutes long at a single clip. Marketing agencies are also using the vibe directing approach to compose content for seven million average monthly users.

Slow progress in traditional film

The film and television industry has lagged behind other sectors in adopting AI production tools, according to Mao. She explained that this delay exists for good reason as the industry needs more time to mature. The company currently focuses on using these tools for previz and postproduction purposes rather than live on-set work.
