Lillard doubted the films future

During a panel discussion, Lillard stated he thought the movie was lame while driving home from work. He explained that his co-stars were planning to return to television series like Friends and Party of Five. Lillard said he intended to become a television star because he did not expect the film to succeed.

The project became a cult classic

Lillard noted that the pilot for his next role never went forward and the movie eventually found an audience. The first installment was released in 1996 and started a franchise with seven films total. The latest movie in the series was released earlier this year.
