Matt Damon regrets passing on role in Ted comedy film
Matt Damon told GQ magazine he talked himself out of starring as John in the 2012 comedy Ted.
Damon passed on the part
The actor confirmed he read the script at dinner with friends before deciding against it. He admitted he got too clever by half and overthought the opportunity. Damon noted that his father had passed away, making a Boston shoot less appealing.
Wahlberg received the role
Mark Wahlberg eventually played the best friend of the foul-mouthed teddy bear in the movie. Damon stated that the right actor got the part and approved of how the film turned out. He believes Wahlberg is great and would not have made the performance any better.
Film spawned sequels
The original comedy led to a sequel movie and a prequel series on Peacock. Damon expressed regret about missing the experience but acknowledged the project was a hit. The actor is currently starring in Christopher Nolan box office smash The Odyssey.
