Reason for turning down part

Damon said he overthought the opportunity and talked himself out of accepting the role. He admitted to getting too clever by half while reading the script with friends at dinner.

Personal connection to Boston

The actor noted that filming would have taken place in his hometown of Boston. He mentioned that his father has since passed away, making a six-month stay home particularly meaningful now.

Outcome and sequel success

Mark Wahlberg ultimately received the part and starred alongside the talking bear in the film. Damon stated that the right actor got the role and praised the movie for turning out great.
