Mariska Hargitay teases Christopher Meloni return for Law and Order SVU episode
Mariska Hargitay posted photos on Tuesday suggesting Christopher Meloni will appear in the 600th episode of Law and Order: SVU ahead of its season 28 premiere.
Instagram posts confirm reunion
Hargitay shared two images on her Instagram account to hint at Meloni's upcoming appearance. The first photo showed her pointing toward the back of a bald man whose face was turned away from the camera. Her second image was a selfie with Meloni that included a caption celebrating the milestone 600th episode.
Characters set to reunite
The posts indicate that Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson will meet again on screen for this specific installment. This return marks a guest appearance nearly a year after Meloni last appeared in the series premiere of season 27. It also comes five months following the announcement that he would no longer play Stabler full time.
History of actor departures
Meloni originally portrayed the character from 1999 through the show's twelfth season in 2011 before leaving. He previously returned to the franchise in 2021 while launching his spinoff series Organized Crime. Hargitay has stated she tried to keep him on the show because their departure did not end well.
