Promoter cites venue objections

Messina Touring Group stated that venues on upcoming dates would not allow Macklemore to perform. The promoter explained that keeping the rapper on the lineup would force tour cancellation and impact hundreds of thousands of fans. After discussions with stakeholders, the group confirmed Macklemore will not appear at the remaining support dates.

Remaining tour schedule details

Macklemore was scheduled to open for Sheeran at eight of the ten shows left on the US leg. The tour is set to resume on September 19 in Philadelphia. Objections reportedly came from stadiums in cities including Boston, Atlanta, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Dallas, and Tampa.

Context of the incident

The rapper delivered remarks during a concert at MetLife Stadium where he addressed the situation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. He told the audience that people in those regions had not been forgotten. A petition from the Israeli American Council subsequently demanded his removal from the tour.
