Lionsgate and Meta partner to bring Hunger Games sequel to VR glasses
Lionsgate and Meta announced a deal to release The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping in 3D on Meta VR headsets starting in spring 2027.

Film conversion completed ahead of release
The Oscar-winning visual effects studio DNEG finished converting the movie to 3D before its theatrical run. Lionsgate and Meta confirmed this work was done specifically so the film could play on future VR hardware. The theatrical release is scheduled for November 20.
New headsets arrive in spring 2027
The content will appear on lighter VR glasses rather than Meta's heavier headset when they become available to consumers. Director Francis Lawrence stated that adapting the film for 3D gave the production team another creative tool. He expressed excitement for audiences to experience the story in an entirely new way on these devices.
Franchise history and sequel details
Sunrise on the Reaping serves as a direct sequel to the 2023 film The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Both movies function as prequels to the main series that Lionsgate released between 2012 and 2015. In total, there have been six films in the franchise so far.
