Kara Swisher says she will leave CNN when her contract ends
Kara Swisher announced on Tuesday that she plans to depart CNN upon the expiration of her contract at the end of this year.
Swisher cites ownership concerns
The host told co-host Scott Galloway on her Pivot podcast that she does not want to work for Paramount CEO David Ellison or his father, Larry. She stated she has asked her agent to terminate her agreement before the December 31 deadline. Swisher explained that she initially considered a licensing arrangement but ultimately decided against working for the Ellisons.
Contract termination efforts begin
Swisher confirmed she is reading her contract terms as she processes the news of the acquisition. She noted that CNN executives have been trying to keep her on staff despite her decision. The host indicated she has other professional opportunities that offer more money and a larger audience.
Early departure unlikely
When asked if CNN would let her leave early, Swisher replied that they are not inclined to do so. She clarified that while she respects the current executives, her commitment to the network is ending. Her contract runs until the final day of December.
