Joshua Giuliano’s slasher film River sells to Universal and Blumhouse for over $10 million
Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster have acquired distribution rights to Joshua Giuliano's debut feature River at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Variety confirmed that the companies are closing a deal to sell the film for north of $10 million. The project was originally backed by Independent Film Company and Shudder before this sale. Executive producers include Roy Lee, Ben Ross, and Jason Blum.
Cast and plot details
The slasher stars Jane Levy, Jessica Rothe, Max Mattern, and Dane DiLiegro as estranged siblings. Their father dies and they reunite in their hometown to scatter his ashes. The trip turns into a waking nightmare after their boat breaks down on a remote river.
Future projects for director
Blumhouse Atomic Monster, Divie/Conquer, and Spooky Pictures recently signed on for Giuliano's next film Occupant. Focus Features will handle distribution for that upcoming project. The filmmaker previously worked in the American Film Institute's directing program.
