Japan Anime Market Reaches Record $28.2 Billion in 2025
Hasegawa Masahiro of the Association of Japanese Animations presented preliminary figures at TIFFCOM showing global spending on Japanese anime hit a record JPY4.45 trillion in 2025.
Local and Overseas Growth Rates
The local market grew by 14.1 percent to reach JPY1.91 trillion. Overseas revenue climbed 17.2 percent to total JPY2.54 trillion. This marks the first time both domestic and international sectors expanded strongly together.
Shift in Revenue Sources
Overseas consumers now account for more than half of total spending. The international share rose to 57.1 percent from 56.5 percent the previous year. Overseas revenue first surpassed local revenue in 2023 and the gap has widened since then.
