Platform history and impact

Jamal Edwards founded the online music channel in 2006 after receiving a camcorder for Christmas. The site helped launch careers for artists including Dave, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J and Skepta. Jamal died aged 31 in 2022 following cardiac arrhythmia linked to drug use.

New leadership and mission

His sister Tanisha now serves as CEO while also working as a singer-songwriter and producer. She believes curated platforms remain essential when algorithms dictate what listeners consume. The channel plans to return freestyle formats to find the next generation of rappers.
