Ireland will boycott 2027 Eurovision contest over Israel participation

Broadcasting decision confirmed

RTE stated it will neither participate in nor broadcast next year's competition. The broadcaster cited the ongoing loss of lives and humanitarian crisis in Gaza as the reason for this choice. This marks Ireland's second consecutive year of absence from the event.

Other nations join protest

Ireland joins the Netherlands in skipping the contest, while Iceland, Slovenia, and Spain also withdrew last year. Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS noted that Eurovision cannot be viewed as neutral during a major military conflict. Organizers expressed regret over the decision but respected the broadcaster's choice.

Future participation uncertain

Eurovision director Martin Green said organizers hope Ireland returns in the future. The 2027 contest is scheduled to take place in Burgas, Bulgaria. RTE remains deeply concerned about the lack of independent access for journalists in Gaza.
