Police conclude local inquiry

The Greenville Police Department stated it has concluded its investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Officials cited the medical examiner's report which found she died from toxic effects of fentanyl, Xanax and other drugs.

Federal agency involvement unclear

Reports indicate the US Drug Enforcement Agency joined the local probe into her passing. It remains unknown whether that federal investigation has also ended alongside the local one.

Cause of death confirmed

Panettiere was found unresponsive at a residence on 16 August before being pronounced dead last month. The coroner confirmed the former child star died from an accidental drug overdose involving synthetic opioids.
