Governor Newsom signs California postproduction tax credit bill into law
Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 2319 into law on Friday at the Television Academy offices in North Hollywood.
New standalone incentive for workers
The new legislation creates a standalone tax incentive specifically for postproduction work. This measure rewards productions that locate their postproduction tasks within the state regardless of where filming occurred. It also extends credits to projects that do not qualify for existing production tax credits.
Funding and legislative support
State officials have allocated $10 million to fund this new credit program. Assemblymember Nick Schultz carried the bill through the state Assembly before the governor approved it. The California Post Alliance described the signing as a historic chapter for the local workforce.
