First film success in Hollywood

The duo's 2018 thriller Freaks made over $375 million worldwide during its theatrical run. The movie premiered at the Vancouver Film Festival before becoming a box office hit.

Directors return to their roots

Lipovsky grew up in Vancouver and attended the festival as a teenager with a special pass. He recalled seeing filmmakers on stage and wishing one day that would be him.

New film features older protagonist

The original story focused on a girl who could not leave her house. In the sequel, the character is now much older and faces new challenges.
