Former 60 Minutes producers team up for Altadena fire documentary
Climate journalist Bill McKibben and former 60 Minutes executive producer David Gelber have created a new documentary about the aftermath of the 2025 Eaton Fire in Altadena.
Documentary focuses on recovery phase
The film chronicles residents confronting challenges while rebuilding homes and preserving their community more than a year after the blaze. Initial news coverage concentrated on the night the fire erupted, but this project picks up the story later.
Interviews feature local residents
The production includes conversations with Altadena families sharing personal stories alongside discussions with experts in climate and public policy. Creators state the work shows what happens after television cameras leave a disaster scene.
Broader community implications explored
Producers describe Altadena as a window into questions that communities across the country are increasingly facing regarding long-term recovery. The project aims to show that disasters are not random tragedies but result from specific players and actions.
