Emma Freud confirms Beatles songs will star in Yesterday stage musical
Film producer Emma Freud confirmed The Beatles have agreed to let their songs be used in a West End stage version of the movie Yesterday.

Production team and director details
Freud is developing the show with her husband Richard Curtis, who co-wrote the original 2019 film. Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle will oversee the stage production as well. The creative team has already completed two workshops before a third session scheduled for this month.
Script development and legal hurdles
The current script represents the eleventh draft because adapting a movie for the stage requires significant changes to every beat. Freud noted that this marks the first time The Beatles have legally allowed their music on a West End musical. No specific theatre has been named yet, though the team says a venue has been chosen.
Adaptation process for film story
The production aims to make every theatrical beat different from its cinematic counterpart rather than simply transferring the script. Actors will interrogate the songs and staging during upcoming sessions to test how the material works live.
