Dobe Newton says I Am Australian used at CPAC without permission
Musician Dobe Newton stated his co-written song I Am Australian was played at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Brisbane on October 10 and 11 without his consent.

Songwriters express disappointment over usage
Newton told media he never gave permission for the track to be performed. Co-writer Bruce Woodley confirmed that no request was made or granted from him either. Newton described feeling surprised and unhappy about the event featuring talks on migration by Pauline Hanson and Angus Taylor.
Performance occurred during opening ceremony
A CPAC program listed the song as being sung by opera singers alongside Advance Australia Fair and Waltzing Matilda. The group performed these pieces during the conference opening in Brisbane. Newton was only informed of the usage after contacting journalists rather than receiving direct contact from organizers.
