Digger flops at box office while Verity tops charts
Warner Bros. film Digger earned $3.4 million on its Friday opening day in North American theaters.

Opening weekend estimates look low
Industry sources estimate the domestic opening weekend will reach only $7.5 million. The movie was originally greenlit for $125 million before production costs rose to between $160 and $180 million. Warner Bros. now expects significant losses because the studio splits ticket sales with theater owners.
Studio faces string of failures
This release joins other recent duds for the company such as The Bride and Supergirl. General audiences rejected the film despite a press tour featuring Tom Cruise. Alejandro González Iñárritu directed the project starring Cruise as an oil tycoon.
Verity takes top spot
Amazon MGM thriller Verity landed at number one with $15.1 million on Friday. This success contrasts sharply with the performance of Digger in the same market.
