Chris Rock explains why he acted in his own film Misty Green
Chris Rock told Variety that he decided to act in his new comedy-drama Misty Green at the last minute after originally planning to direct it.

Original casting plans changed
Rock wrote and directed the film which features Rosalind Eleazar as a fading actress. He initially imagined Donald Glover in the lead role but decided against it. The director stated he felt a self-imposed fear of being on camera.
Securing the supporting cast
Most actors agreed to join the project immediately after hearing about it. Adam Driver and Anna Kendrick were fans of Rock's previous work Top Five. Daniel Kaluuya required special effort because he was effectively retired at the time.
How the brother role filled
Rock visited Kaluuya at his hotel to convince him to take the part. The actor agreed after learning that Eleazar knew him from British theater work. This connection convinced Kaluuya that she was talented enough for the role.
