New design draws on film history

The company stated that the updated model takes visual cues from the original EOS 650 SLR. This older film camera influenced the squared-off shape and the angled corner seen when using an optional grip.

Performance improvements address past issues

Reviewers previously noted shortcomings in the first R8 that this version now corrects. The new device shoots at 40 frames per second while capturing significantly more images in a burst.

Stabilization and weight are key features

Canon claims this is their lightest full-frame camera available on the market today. It includes five-axis stabilization to reduce shake by up to 7.5 stops when paired with supported lenses.
