Broadway box office drops 11 percent after New England storm hits New York
Broadway attendance and capacity fell by about 11 percent last week in New York amid a weekend Nor'easter that triggered state emergencies.
Top shows lead the drop
Hamilton remained the highest grossing show with $2.6 million, followed by The Lion King at $1.7 million. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child rebounded to $1.6 million after Tom Felton returned to his role. Wicked saw one of the biggest downturns, falling more than $290,000 from the prior week to reach $1 million.
Some plays buck the trend
New play Paranormal Activity was among the few that increased grosses by close to $86,000. Stranger Things: The First Shadow dipped nearly $250,000 to land around $570,000 for the weekend. Overall capacity remained at 97 percent despite the storm-related attendance plunge.
