Booker Prize judges reveal six shortlisted novels after difficult selection process
Booker Prize judges have announced the six shortlisted novels for this year's award following a challenging selection meeting.
Previous winners return to list
Marlon James and Douglas Stuart are among the authors shortlisted again after winning the prize in 2015 and 2020 respectively. The panel also included Elizabeth Strout, M John Harrison, Luke Kennard, and Rebecca Perry as contenders for the award.
Judges describe tough selection work
Dame Mary Beard, who chaired the judging panel, stated that agreeing on the final six books has been hard work. She noted that seven titles from the July longlist were removed during the process to reach the final shortlist.
Panel members express strong views
Patricia Lockwood described her experience in the meetings as revealing she was bossier than she believed herself to be. Beard added that English language fiction currently shows great talent ranging from old writers to new ones.
