Bill Hader voices Cat in new animated Dr Seuss film
Bill Hader provides the voice for the title character in a new animated adaptation of The Cat in the Hat.
Animated version released for streaming
The digitally animated movie is rated PG and runs for one hour and forty-seven minutes. It serves as a diverting effort geared toward young children and functions as a streaming babysitter.
Comparison to previous live-action film
Reviewers note the film is an improvement over the 2003 live-action version starring Mike Myers. That earlier movie was described as a noisy antic hairball made in the shadow of Jim Carrey's Grinch film.
Critics find visual mayhem taxing
Some sequences offer respite from unrelenting visual and narrative chaos within the picture. While there are funny moments, the overall experience proves more taxing than enjoyable for many viewers.
