BBC closes BBC Three, BBC Scotland and Radio 4 Extra linear channels
The BBC will shut down its BBC Three, BBC Scotland television channels and Radio 4 Extra radio station in the spring as part of a plan to save £500m.

Channels move to online platforms
Both television services will continue producing content for iPlayer without filling a terrestrial schedule. Radio 4 Extra programmes will remain available on BBC Sounds and other digital outlets. The corporation confirmed these changes follow immediate cost pressures and a need to reinvent the broadcaster.
Scotland retains local broadcast presence
BBC Scotland content will air on BBC One and BBC Two in specific regions while staying on iPlayer. Commissions for younger audiences on BBC Three will appear on YouTube and other platforms. Some speech programmes from the archive will shift to digital formats alongside existing online offerings.
Additional cuts target news division
The BBC News department plans to cut 100 jobs to help meet its financial targets. A new director has warned that further reductions could occur if the funding gap remains large. These measures represent part of a broader strategy to adapt output for changing audience habits.
