New book set in academy

The novel is the first installment in a planned duology titled Winterveil. It takes place at Valeran Academy, an institution training elite students for a century-long Cold War. Four students are drawn together for a mysterious mission involving war simulations and new technology.

Author cites Pokemon influence

Reid told Variety that she grew up playing FireRed and LeafGreen before getting into competitive play during the pandemic. She specifically referenced the official competitive format run by the Pokemon Company as a key inspiration for her story. The author currently keeps her Pokemon plushies on the couch behind her.
