Farhadi questions American saviour narrative

The filmmaker appeared at the Rio Film Festival to discuss his views on Hollywood cinema. He stated that American productions often look down on other nations while claiming a moral superiority that does not exist. Farhadi argued that people in those countries can save themselves without outside intervention from white men.

Director challenges claims of democracy

During the interview, Farhadi told Variety that the United States does not have true democracy and called such claims a lie. He suggested that these films are made primarily for money rather than to tell complex truths about international relations.
