Amanda Lear accuses Miley Cyrus of copying her 1970s song
French singer Amanda Lear accused American pop star Miley Cyrus on Monday of plagiarizing her 1978 track The Sphinx in the new song Redlights.
Lear claims plagiarism accusation
The French disco diva stated that similarities exist between her older work and the American singer's latest release. Lear posted a message on social media thanking Cyrus for copying the track while using the hashtags ripoff and copycat. She told AFP that she was not interested in pursuing a lawsuit against the pop star.
Record label seeks acknowledgement
Lear explained that her record label Universal wants proper acknowledgement of the alleged plagiarism from the publishers. The singer noted that her team desires recognition for the lyrics she wrote for the original song. She emphasized that she simply pointed out the situation rather than threatening retaliation or legal action.
