Ai Weiwei unveils new Australian art installation of combat helmets
Artist Ai Weiwei has unveiled a large-scale iron sculpture installation titled Mushrooms at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
Installation features cast iron helmets
The work consists of 500 identical cast iron sculptures placed on an elevated platform. Each piece is shaped like a combat helmet to create a visual rhyme with mushroom caps. The total length of the installation measures 40 metres.
Commission details and location
This project serves as this year's Neil Balnaves Tallawoladah Lawn Commission outside the museum grounds. The site is situated in a rural area near Sydney where the artist presented the piece to the public.
