Sorkin expected Eisenberg to join

The director admitted he never considered that Eisenberg would turn down the part. Sorkin stated he was only a few pages from finishing the script when he met the actor at a party. He sent the material immediately after their conversation and assumed Eisenberg would agree.

Attempts to convince the actor

Sorkin described laying out arguments for why Eisenberg should take the role. He highlighted that the studio offered a significant paycheck but noted it could not sway the decision. The director said Eisenberg told him the talks made him reconsider his mind more than expected.

Eisenberg remains uninterested in part

Despite Sorkin's efforts, the actor did not sign on for the project. Sorkin noted that he tried to convince Eisenberg but the actor did not budge. The director expressed pleasure that his arguments brought Eisenberg closer to changing his mind.
