Tax chambers urge FBR to extend return deadline due to IRIS glitches
Business groups in Pakistan have asked the Federal Board of Revenue to extend the income tax filing deadline because of technical problems on the IRIS portal.
Chambers demand immediate extension
The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry called for an extension on Sunday. RCCI President Usman Shaukat stated that high traffic volume caused significant delays during the final days before the September 30 deadline. He noted that taxpayers face prolonged processing times while attempting to upload financial records.
Nationwide requests from bar associations
Almost all tax bar associations and trade bodies across the country have made similar requests. The Pakistan Tax Bar Association, Lahore Tax Bar Association, and others asked FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial for a one-month extension. These groups cited system failures and delayed notifications as primary reasons for their appeal.
Experts suggest specific timeline
Asif S Kasbati of the ICAP Fiscal Laws Committee suggested filing should be allowed until October 31, 2025. He argued that the current filing number is far less than expected non-trader returns based on history. An announcement regarding the extension could come from tax authorities on September 30 morning.
