Pakistan inflation jumps as food and fuel prices rise
The National Price Monitoring Committee reported rising wholesale and consumer prices in Islamabad on Thursday.

Wholesale prices climb sharply
Wholesale price index inflation increased to 13.3 percent year-on-year according to the committee. Weekly consumer price inflation also climbed to 11.53 percent for the week ending October 1.
Food items drive the surge
Prices for wheat flour, onions, and diesel saw major annual increases during this period. Short-term inflation data released later showed a rise to 11.97 percent driven largely by higher food costs.
Fuel costs fuel inflation
The government continues raising petrol and diesel prices without easing the petroleum levy. These energy cost increases are indirectly boosting sales tax collections while pushing up transport fares.
