FPCCI asks government for one-month income tax return deadline extension
The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Lahore urged the federal government on Monday to extend the income tax filing deadline by one month.

FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh stated that the FBR's IRIS portal has suffered frequent slowdowns and downtimes due to heavy traffic. These technical disruptions are preventing thousands of willing taxpayers from submitting their returns and wealth statements accurately before the September 30 cutoff.

The trade body argues that moving the deadline to October 31, 2026, is a practical necessity rather than a concession. This adjustment aims to alleviate pressure on small and medium enterprises while broadening the tax base.

Sheikh explained that penalizing taxpayers for systemic inefficiencies in digital infrastructure is deeply unfair. The leadership emphasized that the business community remains fully committed to fulfilling its national duty and contributing to the exchequer.
