Database analysis reveals illegal revisions

Officials detected the scheme by examining records with assistance from Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited. The investigation found 85 taxpayers altered statements for tax years between 2014 and 2019. These changes occurred after the five-year legal limit allowed for revising returns.

Specific case details emerge

One taxpayer in Lahore added Rs102.8 million to his record in May 2026. He later used these funds to purchase seven properties worth Rs64.41 million. Authorities questioned him about the source of the money but received no explanation.

Criminal case registration follows

The Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation registered a criminal case under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010. Further cases are currently being processed by the relevant authorities. The fraud involved undeclared cash, gold, prize bonds, properties and business capital.
